If you are planning to travel to Auckland Castle by car here are some estimated travel distances which may help you plan your day.
We are located approximately 12 miles from Durham, 13 miles from Darlington, 25 miles from Middlesbrough and 30 miles from Newcastle-upon-Tyne. From the A1 motorway take the A688 from Durham Services (J61) to Bishop Auckland.

Parking
There is no parking on site to preserve the historic landscape with its picturesque views. Please follow signs to North Bondgate car park, just 300 yards from the Castle gates. The terrain is flat and you will be able to enjoy some of the town as you make your way to Auckland Castle. There is now a free shuttle minibus service for those with mobility issues.

Due to works being carried out by Durham County Council there is currently no access to North Bondgate Car Park through the Market Place. Please follow the diversion signs to the car park of follow Sat Nav postcode DL14 7PG. Once you have parked, turn left out of the car park, walk straight ahead until you come to the Town Hall. Continue past the Town Hall on the right-hand side of the building until you see the Robinson Arch which is the main entrance to the Castle. If you don’t want to walk you could wait for our free shuttle bus (See below for details).

On Kynren performance days the North Bondgate car park is reserved after 5.30pm for Kynren parking ticket holders only.
Kynren is performed on:
July 2nd, 9th, 16th, 23rd, 29th, 30th
August 12th, 13th, 20th, 27th, 28th
September 3rd, 10th, 17th

Free Shuttle Service
