Free Entry for Heritage Festival

23 August 2016

On Sunday 11 September, you can enjoy free entry into Auckland Castle as part of England’s favourite heritage festival, Heritage Open Days.

This special event, celebrating the country’s finest history, architecture and culture, coincides with your last chance to see Janet Cardiff’s amazing musical instillation, Forty Part Motet, featuring 40 individual voices from the Salisbury Cathedral Choir.

It is also an ideal opportunity to see the former home of the Prince Bishops of Durham in all its current glory, before we close to daily visits for the start of major restoration works at the end of September.

Doors will be open from 10am until 5pm (last admission 4pm) giving you plenty of time to visit Pitmen and Prelates, the first exhibition to explore the relationship between the Bishops of Durham and the local mining community, as well as a special exhibition outlining our Future Plans.
