Celebrating National Apprenticeship Week

6 March 2018

This week sees the launch of National Apprenticeship Week (NAW 2018) which runs from Monday, 5 to Friday, 9 March.

During the week, employers and apprentices from across the country share their stories and encourage other people to consider an apprenticeship as a route into a new career.

The Auckland Project currently employs 26 apprentices, with plans to create more apprenticeships in future. Five catering apprenticeships have been funded by The Weston Bursaries, part of The Garfield Weston Foundation.

As part of National Apprenticeship Week, we will be celebrating our apprentices through a series of short films that highlight the fantastic work they do on a day-to-day basis.

These films have been produced by two of our Marketing and Communications apprentices, who have been able to develop a range of new skills over the course of the campaign. They have been involved in the planning and storyboarding of five short films, carried out interviews with other apprentices and edited these segments together into a series of finished films.

Camilla Race, Head of Employability at The Auckland Project said: “When you’re an apprentice, you get the opportunity to apply whatever you’re learning in a real work environment. When supported, apprentices develop good employability skills, which is really important in the world of work. Often college students and graduates haven’t had the opportunity to develop these skills, which means apprentices are ahead of the game when applying for other jobs.”

The films will be published on our Facebook page throughout National Apprenticeship Week, or you can watch them on Vimeo.
