Aiming for a World Class Welcome
20 March 2017
Bishop Auckland could soon be recognised as one of the world’s most welcoming towns.
Thanks in part to free training from Auckland Castle Trust, the town is already well on its way to achieving WorldHost Recognised Destination status.
The prestigious accolade, assessed by workforce development expert, People 1st, is achieved only when half of all staff from eligible businesses pass specialist, WorldHost training, designed to boost customer service to world-class levels.
It was recently confirmed in a special celebration at Bishop Auckland Town Hall that 98 people from 50 businesses have already successfully completed the programme, with 14 companies being named WorldHost Recognised Businesses, after enrolling 50 per cent of their total workforce.
This includes the Park Head Hotel, Bondgate Gallery, Castlegate Café, Escomb Church, Fifteas Tearoom, Spice Lounge, Victorian Tearoom, Images Bridal, Inspiral Cycles, Trimmers Hairdressers, M&Co clothing store and Painting with Thread.
Auckland Castle Trust, has been offering WorldHost training free to businesses in Bishop Auckland’s leisure, tourism, retail and other customer focussed industries since June 2016, with funding from Councillor Joy Allen’s Neighbourhood Budget via the Bishop Auckland and Shildon Area Action Partnership (AAP).
The charity is confident the town can achieve WorldHost Recognised Destination status by summer 2017 and has a limited number of free places still available for WorldHost workshops on March 23 and 29.
